FROM CEO Speaks at Business Insider Conference

Howard Tiersky, CEO & Founder of FROM, together with former US President Barack Obama, Global Digitalization Manager of IKEA, Carolina Gomez and more took the stage this week at the world’s biggest leadership and experience summit –  RESHAPE, The Experience Code – run by Business Insider. 

Tiersky delivered his session jointly with Jitse Groen, CEO of Takeaway.com, the parent company of GrubHub and a number of other similar food delivery companies around the world.

Here are some takeaways from their discussion:

  • Tiersky and Groen diescussed  impact of COVID on restaurants and how it is actually quite variable. Some were hit hard while others benefitted from the increase in takeout and delivery.
  • Groen shared thoughts on his journey of creating the Netherland’s largest food delivery service and then facing the reality that he needed to either acquire other companies to grow to be a global player or be acquired himself. He chose the former path.
  • They discussed how business models based on the principles of the “gig economy” need to be tailored on a country by country basis due to significant differences in labor laws. For example in The Netherlands all of Groen’s delivery workers are full time salaried employees, quite different from the GrubHub model in the US, but the US model would be illegal in The Netherlands.
